Let Not This Brotherhood Be Destroyed My Stand Against the Citizenship Amendment Bill
The Kerala Pravasi Association (KPA) filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court challenging the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). Granting citizenship based on religion is unacceptable, not only is it against global norms, but it also violates the very secular foundation upon which India was built. I, along with President of KPA, Ms. Aswini Nambarambath, we have approached the Supreme Court to challenge this discriminatory policy of the central government. India was partitioned once in the name of religion. While Pakistan chose the path of a religious state, India embraced every faith without adopting an official religion. Long before the word “secular” was formally enshrined in our Constitution, this spirit defined our nation. That vision must be protected. The Citizenship Amendment Bill risks pushing India towards dangerous religious divisions. Refugees should never be categorized by their faith — doing so strikes at the core of human dignity and equality. As Chairman of KPA, I cannot remain silent in the face of such a threat to our national unity. Through this legal battle, I hope to uphold the constitutional values that guarantee equality and justice for all. I trust the Supreme Court will consider our petition with urgency and issue an interim order that preserves the principles on which our Republic stands.
